Former President Donald Trump was in Milwaukee on Friday night for a rally. While at the podium, he made a really bizarre claim about Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Antetokounmpo, 29, has been playing for the Milwaukee Bucks since 2013. The NBA champion and eight-time All-Star has been the face of the franchise for several years. That being said, the “Greek Freak” is a fan favorite in the community.
For some ridiculous reason, Trump isn’t so sure if he believes Antetokounmpo’s background. On Friday, he legitimately questioned if he’s as Greek as the former MVP.
“Your team is very good,” Trump said. “I would say the Greek is a seriously good player, do you agree? And tell me, who has more Greek in him? The Greek or me? I think we have about the same, right?”
In case Trump didn’t know, Antetokounmpo was born in Athens, Greece. He was eventually issued Greek citizenship.

So, why did Trump feel the need to say he’s as Greek as Antetokounmpo? We can’t say for sure, but several people believe his comments were rooted in racism.
“He’s saying Giannis isn’t Greek because Giannis is black,” one person replied.” Giannis was born in Athens. Giannis is 100% more Greek than Donald Trump. This is blatant racism.”
Another person tweeted, “Everything he says seems to devolve into bigotry.”
“Trump came to Milwaukee to talk about how he doesn’t think Giannis Antetokounmpo is actually Greek,” a third person wrote. “I wonder why he thinks that?”
Antetokounmpo has not responded to Trump’s comments, nor is he required to. He’s getting ready for a key matchup this Saturday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Trump, on the other hand, is running out of time to gain voters before Election Day.
