Doc Rivers had no trouble calling out the Bucks on Thursday night following their disappointing loss to the Grizzlies.
Rivers questioned the Bucks’ effort in their final game before the All-Star break.
“We come back on our set, two guys forget what we’re running, then we miss a shot and nobody gets back. That’s how we start out the third quarter,” Rivers told reporters, via the New York Post. “That tells you all you need to know about where our heads were.
“We had some guys here. We had some guys in Cabo.”
That line might win over NBA fans, but we’re not entirely sure how the locker room in Milwaukee will respond to it.
The Bucks are 3-7 since hiring Rivers as their head coach. The whole point of bringing him in at this stage in the season was to boost their chances of competing for an NBA title.
As of now, the Bucks look like the type of team that gets upset in the opening round of the playoffs. There’s still time to turn things around, but the lack of effort on a nightly basis is concerning.
The Bucks will return to action on Feb. 23 against the Timberwolves. We’ll find out then if their loss to the Grizzlies was a wake-up call or sign of things to come.
