Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers says Damian Lillard wasn’t in proper physical condition in the leadup to the 2023-24 campaign as he awaited a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers. “I didn’t even realize Dame was traded two or three days before training camp. … We were at dinner, and he said, ‘Coach, I didn’t work out all summer. It’s the first time in my life that I’ve not worked out. I was so scared of getting injured working out,’” Rivers said Thursday during an appearance on “The Bill Simmons Podcast.” “He knew he was gonna get traded. So, he said, ‘You know, I did some light running. I did some shooting with no one in the gym. But I didn’t go (hard) at all.’ … He was honest about it, and that’s one of the reasons you love him. He said, ‘This is the worst shape I’ve ever been in.’”

Doc Rivers, on the latest BS pod, said:
“Usually you play better at home. The only place that I thought it was difficult to play at home is in Philly, because of the crowd. I thought it affected our players some.”
The Sixers were 31-4 at home the year before Doc got here. – 1:55 PM

Really interesting perspective from Doc Rivers on Dame (and makes you think of Jamal Murray) not being in shape last year and how he’s already doing two-a-days.

If you gave the Bucks front office some truth serum and a time machine – would they rather:
A) Dame Lillard with three years and $169 million left on his contract
or
B) Jrue Holiday with four years and $135 million left on his contract,
and Grayson Allen,
and their 2028 – 12:38 PM

Dillon Jones has built a relationship with the greatest Weber State player of them all, 7-time NBA All-Star Damian Lillard, who has helped him during these NBA workouts. “Two main things he told me was, don’t try to make it to the NBA,” Jones said. “Just try to be the best version of yourself. Going to Weber after him, it could be easy to be like, ‘oh, I’m going to try to be like Dame,’ or something like that. But, I never tried to do that. The fact that he told me that kind of confirmed it for me.” -via ABC4 / June 4, 2024
While Lillard reaggravated an Achilles injury in Game 3 and sat for some of the series. Lillard returned in the pivotal Game 6, but the Bucks lost. He addressed the injury in Wednesday’s broadcast on TruTV. Lillard said he recently started physical therapy. “I’m doing my PT stuff just trying to get it … to full strength, start moving on it before I get back on the court so I can get right,” Lillard said. -via Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel / May 26, 2024
