Doc Rivers clapped back a bit at ESPN’s JJ Redick after the former Clippers guard accused him of being “unaccountable” and throwing his teams under the bus.
Appearing on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” the Milwaukee Bucks head coach responded to Redick’s comments. Saying he has “nothing but love for JJ” while also taking credit for a lot of his success.
JJ has had a problem with me for a while. And that’s fine… In JJ’s case, we didn’t sign him back with the Clippers. I stopped playing him as much because he wasn’t very effective in the playoffs. That’s all known… JJ Redick’s best numbers of his career was under one coach and you’re looking at him. I’m the one who grabbed him out of Milwaukee and decided to start him. From that point on, his career took off.
Rivers added that he hopes Redick lands a head coaching job soon so he can realize “it’s not as easy as you think.”
Back in February, JJ launched into a pretty scathing rant about Doc. Saying, “I’ve seen the trend for years. The trend is always making excuses. Doc, we get it. Taking over a team in the middle of the season is hard. Just like getting traded in the middle of the season is hard for a player. We get it. But it’s always an excuse.”
Redick later doubled down on his argument on the “Old Man and the Three” podcast.
