I don’t think Donovan Mitchell has been appreciated enough for how good he’s been and the step back he’s been willing to take to help the #Cavs.

Sam Merrill stinks! He’s making only 36 percent of the 5.3 treys he tries. (Merrill doesn’t stink, really. He was the Cavs’ best 3-point shooter last season, making them at 40 percent). “You have to respect our shooting,” Atkinson said. “A lot of it is the bench. We kind of know the main guys, Donovan and Darius, but we have Ty and Evan making 3s tonight. What I do like — a big part of it is we are generating great shots. Shot quality, I think we are 1 or 2 in the league.” -via New York Times / December 6, 2024
The Boston Celtics are defending champs, rode that strategy to the title this year and are attempting 51 3s a game. That’s 57 percent of their total shots! Cleveland isn’t quite that extreme, averaging 38.4 3s per game (which ranks 11th), but the players are apparently more adept at making those shots than the competition. It’s so simple but nonetheless a key driver in the team’s enormous success and a vital trait to carry into the playoffs. “I think it also helps us (to have) the actions, the spacing, the way we’re moving, our pace. … It’s like it’s not predictable; you never know where each guy’s going to be,” said Mitchell, who led all players Thursday with 28 points. “I think that’s what really helps. We’re getting a lot of open shots, too, I think, which is also helping people. A lot of guys that shoot the ball really well, but we also have a lot of guys that can get to the paint, so now you’re able to mix both of those things. It’s tough to guard, and I think we hang our hat on that.” -via New York Times / December 6, 2024
#Cavs beat the Nuggets 126-114. A really impressive victory for Cleveland. They had four players score 20 points, led by Donovan Mitchell with 28 on the night. This game is further proof this Cavs team is for real. -via x.com / December 5, 2024
