Starters look sharp as the Brewers post seven runs in the first three innings
The Brewers defeated the Seattle Mariners this afternoon by a score of 7-5. All of the offense came in the first three innings before the Brewers swapped their big-league starters for minor leaguers and non-roster invitees.
Tobias Myers was first to pitch for the Cactus Crew and he got off to a shaky start. Luke Raley led off the game with a double and came around to score on an RBI single by Jorge Polanco. The next batter, Mitch Garver, took advantage of a pitch that Myers left out over the plate, sending a two-run homer over the fence to give the Mariners an early 3-0 lead.
The Brewers answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first thanks to Christian Yelich’s second home run in as many games. This one didn’t clear the batter’s eye like his first home run of the spring, but rather, it snuck over the left field fence, displaying Yelich’s impressive power to all fields.

Myers returned for the second and third innings, and despite not surrendering any more runs, he was replaced by minor leaguer Kaleb Bowman before the end of the third due to a rising pitch count. Myers benefitted from stellar defense by Brice Turang at shortstop, who made two impressive plays up the middle and further demonstrated that he can handle shortstop as well as second base. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Curt Hogg captured the first of these two plays in the video below.

The Brewers did the rest of their scoring in the bottom of the third, thanks to RBI singles from Garrett Mitchell and Tyler Black and a bases-clearing RBI triple from Joey Ortiz, who just barely missed a grand slam. The starters made a third trip to the plate and collected a few more hits but didn’t scratch across any more runs.

Trevor Megill and Craig Yoho made quick work of the Mariners batters in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, with the only baserunner coming on a walk by Megill. Yoho, who has yet to surrender a run this spring, struck out one with his head-turning changeup that has Brewers fans thinking of nicknames other than “the airbender” that will still do justice to Yoho’s nasty off-speed pitch. Hogg captured a good look at Yoho’s changeup in the following video.

The offense was quiet following the line change, with the only baserunners coming on a walk by catching prospect Darrien Miller and a hard-hit single by former first-round pick Eric Brown Jr. Another former first-rounder, Brock Wilken, made his 2025 Cactus League debut this afternoon, replacing Andruw Monasterio at third base and going 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a flyout to right field.
Deivi García, who has experience as a starting pitcher, pitched the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings for the Brewers and surrendered two runs on two hits and two walks. García did strike out five batters, four of which were swinging, displaying the high whiff rate that drew the Brewers’ front office to García this offseason. Minor leaguer Blake Holub closed the game out with a scoreless inning of his own, and the Brewers grabbed their seventh win of the spring.
The Cactus Crew is back in action tomorrow for their only matchup against the Chicago Cubs this spring. Jacob Misiorowski is set to take on Justin Steele, with first pitch scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
