Just as it appeared the Brewers were getting healthier in the bullpen, Trevor Megill has been placed on the 15-day IL with a lower back problem. Manager Pat Murphy says he’ll have an MRI tomorrow, which should reveal the extent of the injury.

The return of Devin Williams (who made his season debut on Sunday) should mitigate the loss for now, but the Brewers have yet to operate all that close to full capacity in their bullpen this season. Megill has been one of the two most reliable bullpen pieces in Milwaukee this season (alongside Bryan Hudson, who was also recently placed on the IL), and quickly snatched the closer role, which was up in the air after Williams’ injury late in spring training. During the season, Megill converted 20-of-22 save chances while pitching to a 2.41 ERA and 2.73 FIP.
Tyler Jay, who was optioned yesterday but hadn’t yet made it back to Nashville, will take Megill’s spot on the active roster.
