Contreras, Adames, and Chourio all named finalists at their respective positions
The Brewers’ roster continues to contend for awards in November, as three players were named finalists at their respective positions for NL Silver Slugger Awards. William Contreras (catcher), Willy Adames (shortstop), and Jackson Chourio (outfield) were all among the top players at their positions in 2024.
Contreras, who won the award at catcher in 2023, turned in an arguably better season in 2024, hitting .281/.365/.466 (129 OPS+) with 23 homers, 92 RBIs, 99 runs scored, and nine steals, all of which were career highs for him. He also appeared in 155 games, including 120 at catcher. He has a solid chance of repeating as the winner here, as his two competitors — J.T. Realmuto and Will Smith — both had statistically worse seasons in just about every category.
Adames, now officially a free agent, will likely lose out on this award to Francisco Lindor, who put up MVP-like numbers for the Mets. Still, Adames turned in a solid free-agent-to-be season for Milwaukee, hitting .251/.331/.462 (118 OPS+) while breaking his own record for homers by a shortstop in franchise history with 32 on the year. He also drove in a team-high 112 runs while scoring 93 runs and stealing a career-high 21 bases across 161 games.
In the outfield, Chourio also has a decent chance of finishing his rookie season with an NL Silver Slugger Award against a fairly thin field. Chourio is one of five finalists for three awards, joining fellow rookie Jackson Merrill, Jurickson Profar, Seiya Suzuki, and Teoscar Hernández.
Despite a slow start to his season — a .209/.251/.337 line through June 7 — Chourio finished the year with a strong .275/.327/.464 (117 OPS+) line, with 21 homers, 79 RBIs, 80 runs, 22 steals, 29 doubles, and four triples across 148 games. He became the youngest player in MLB history to finish with a 20-20 season, joining Mike Trout and Vada Pinson as the only players to do it in their age-20 seasons (though both Trout and Pinson had turned 21 by the time they completed the feat).
The Silver Slugger Awards, which are voted on by managers and coaches from across the league, will be announced Tuesday, November 12 at 5 p.m. CT on MLB Network.
