Team gets ready for final spring doubleheader
The Brewers will play a pair of games today, a fitting way to spend a Sunday afternoon as the regular season approaches.
Hosting the Colorado Rockies, the Brewers send Elvin Rodríguez to the mound. Through 8 2⁄3 innings this spring, he’s totaled a 9.35 ERA. Three other pitchers are slated to appear as well — Tyler Alexander, Jared Koenig, and Joel Payamps.
This game’s lineup features many of the Opening Day starters, but in an interesting twist, Vinny Capra — who was also just informed he made the Opening Day roster — starts at second base with Brice Turang slotted in at designated hitter, likely do to his still-recovering shoulder. Turang still takes the leadoff spot.
With Joey Ortiz at shortstop and Oliver Dunn at third base, it shows how this year’s infield will have a different feel to last year’s depending on the lineup arrangements.
In the matchup against Seattle, Connor Thomas gets the start. He has yet to appear in the majors but totaled a 2.89 ERA last year in Triple-A over 90 1⁄3 innings. This will be his sixth appearance in Spring Training. Bryan Hudson is the only other pitcher listed to appear in that one.
Caleb Durbin bats leadoff, followed by two of the hottest bats on the team in Andruw Monasterio and Jake Bauers. Monasterio has a 1.236 OPS this spring while Bauers has knocked in nine runs.
The full lineups for both games can be seen below.
Today’s game against the Rockies is available on the Brewers Radio Network. The matchup against Seattle will be on MLB Network for out-of-market viewers.
First pitch at 3:10 p.m. CT. for both games.
