The Brewers are in split squad action against the Athletics and Angels
The Brewers are in split squad action today as they send one group to Tempe to take on the Los Angeles Angels while the other half of the team stays at home to take on the Athletics.
The Brewers are still tweaking their infield alignment, as a previously unforeseen option seems to have come to the fore this week as Pat Murphy toys with a Brice-Turang-at-shortstop and Joey-Ortiz-at-second solution. We’ll see that again today, as those two man those positions versus the Athletics. That last infield spot remains up for debate, though Oliver Dunn’s strong spring likely solidifies him into nothing worse than a platoon role. He’ll be at third in Tempe, while his potential foil in that platoon, Caleb Durbin, starts alongside Turang and Ortiz.
Freddy Peralta will start for the Brewers in the home half of their split-squad day this afternoon. It’s Peralta’s third Cactus League appearance, after a sharp outing last time around when he threw three innings with four strikeouts, no walks, and two harmless hits against the White Sox. In Tempe, Tobias Myers will start for the fourth time in Cactus League action, five days after allowing three runs on six hits in less than three innings against the Mariners.
Jared Koenig and Trevor Megill are also scheduled to pitch today against the Athletics. Connor Thomas and Abner Uribe are scheduled to follow Myers against Los Angeles.
You can catch the road game versus the Angels today on TV, as FanDuel Sports Network has the broadcast. The game versus the Athletics (with the stronger lineup) is on the Brewers Radio Network. Both are just after 3 p.m. Bonus points to those of you who do both at the same time.
