Rhys Hoskins earned the Marvin MIller Man of the Year and Philanthropist of the Year awards
On Saturday, the MLB Players Association released the winners of their Players Choice awards. One Brewer was named as the winner for two different awards. Rhys Hoskins was named the Marvin Miller Man of the Year, as well as the Philanthropist of the Year.
The Marvin Miller Man of the Year award goes to the player “whose leadership most inspires others to higher levels of achievement”. In receiving this year’s award, Hoskins was mentioned for his work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, as well as becoming the Brewers’ player representative this season. For winning this award, Hoskins will receive a grant for $25,000 to the charity of his choice.
In addition, Hoskins also was named the winner of the Philanthropist of the Year Award. In addition to his work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Hoskins also was active in the community. One event noted was Hoskins and his wife hosting 100 families at a Brewers game this season. He also hosted MDA summer camps, made public service announcements, and held social media campaigns. This also comes with a $25,000 contribution to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Hoskins’ honor.
Only one other Brewer was a finalist for the other awards. Jackson Chourio was named as one of the finalists for the NL Outstanding Rookie award, along with Jackson Merrill of the Padres and Paul Skenes of the Pirates. Merrill was named the winner of that award.
