Milwaukee has hit seven grand slams prior to the All-Star break. Which of them has been the best?
Over the past few weeks, the Brewers have made waves in baseball with their grand slam barrage. They’re up to seven grand slams this season, which includes a stretch of six grand slams in 13 days. Now that it’s been almost a week since the Brewers last grand slam, let’s look back at the Brewers seven grand slams this season and rank them.
#7: June 22, Brice Turang @ San Diego Padres (Jhony Brito)
Top 9th, down 6-0
345 feet, 93.7 mph exit velocity, HR in 19/30 parks
+0.7 win % (1.1% chance to win)
Brewers lost 6-4
This was the one grand slam on the list that was mostly meaningless. It was also the shortest and slowest by exit velocity. Down 6-0 in the ninth, the Brewers loaded the bases with two outs. Brice Turang emptied them with a grand slam, and gave the Brewers a little hope by reducing the deficit to two runs. Unfortunately, that hope was squashed almost right away when William Contreras grounded out after that to end the game.

#6: May 13, Jake Bauers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (Josh Fleming)
Bottom 8th, down 7-2
398 feet, 106.8 mph exit velocity, HR in 30/30 parks
+17.8 win % (29.7% chance to win)
Brewers lost 8-6
Faced with only a five-run deficit in this one, this grand slam put some life back into the Brewers. With no outs in the eighth, Jake Bauers hit a grand slam out to right field and cut the Brewers deficit to 7-6. Unfortunately, the Brewers only managed one more baserunner in the game, and the Pirates tacked on a run in the ninth. A 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the ninth ended the game for the Brewers.

#5: July 5, Rhys Hoskins @ Los Angeles Dodgers (Tyler Glasnow)
Top 4th, down 2-1
391 feet, 99.3 mph exit velocity, HR in 2/30 parks
+31.1 win % (81.2% chance to win)
Brewers lost 8-5
Moving into the home runs that either took or extended a lead, this is the most recent grand slam on the list. It turned a one-run deficit into a three-run lead. However, that would be the end of the Brewers run scoring for the day, as they didn’t add on another run. Meanwhile, the pitching staff couldn’t hold the lead, as they allowed six more runs to let the Dodgers rally and win. With many of these grand slams resulting in a win percentage chance in the 75-80% range, one out of every four to five games would be a loss. One interesting fact: This would have been a home run in only two MLB parks. In addition to Dodger Stadium, it would have been a home run at Wrigley Field.

#4: June 30, Brice Turang vs. Chicago Cubs (Kyle Hendricks)
Bottom 4th, up 3-1
381 feet, 107.8 MPH exit velocity, HR in 23/30 parks
+16.1 win % (96.8% chance to win)
Brewers won 7-1
In the rubber match of the series against the Cubs, the Brewers had already built a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. A two-run lead is not the most secure lead available, but a six-run lead is much easier to protect. That capped a seven-run fourth inning, putting the Brewers far ahead and ending the scoring for the day.

#3: June 24, Rhys Hoskins vs. Texas Rangers (Jacob Latz)
Bottom 6th, down 3-1
399 feet, 105.4 mph exit velocity, HR in 30/30 parks
+33.0 win % (85.2% chance to win)
Brewers won 6-3
After the Brewers drove starter Michael Lorenzen from the game, the Rangers brought in Jacob Latz to try and protect their lead. After two Brewers walked to load the bases, Rhys Hoskins came to the plate. He flipped the lead, taking the Brewers from down two runs to up two runs with a grand slam. That would be all the offense the Brewers needed, though they did add on another run for good measure.

#2: June 28, Jackson Chourio vs. Chicago Cubs (Jameson Taillon)
Bottom 4th, down 2-0
377 feet, 98.4 mph exit velocity, HR in 21/30 parks
+43.3 win % (76.8% chance to win)
Brewers won 4-2
In terms of the change to win percentage, this was the most impactful of the grand slams. Colin Rea had allowed two runs early in the game, but the Brewers were still in it down just 2-0. That changed when Jackson Chourio came to the plate with the bases loaded. He hit the Brewers’ fifth grand slam of the season, flipping the two-run lead from the Cubs to the Brewers. That was all they would need in this game, as Rea shut down the Cubs from there, before turning it over to the bullpen who finished the job.
Them: Pleeeeease stop hitting grand slams

#1: June 26, Jake Bauers vs. Texas Rangers (Nathan Eovaldi)
Bottom 3rd, down 1-0
444 feet, 108.0 mph exit velocity, HR in 30/30 parks
+36.8 win % (82.9% chance to win)
Brewers won 6-5
It’s hard to rank any of the grand slams as more impressive than this one. It traveled the farthest, was the fastest coming off the bat, and would have easily been a home run in any ballpark. Not only that, but it was an important moment in the game. This built a 4-1 lead for the Brewers, who would need every bit of that lead. In his Brewers debut, Dallas Keuchel would end up allowing five runs as the Rangers tied the game. The Brewers ended up winning this one 6-5 after Jackson Chourio hit an inside-the-park home run to prove the winning run.
