Chris Sale runs away with the NL prize, while Tarik Skubal wins AL award
The Milwaukee Brewers received zero votes in the 2024 NL Cy Young Award race as the Atlanta Braves Chris Sale ran away with the award, receiving 26 of 30 first-place votes.
Phillies righty Zack Wheeler finished in second place, receiving the other four first-place votes and 25 second-place votes. Pirates rookie Paul Skenes came in third, followed by Dylan Cease of the Padres and Shota Imanaga of the Cubs to round out the top five.
In the American League race, Tigers lefty Tarik Skubal won all 30 first-place votes in another non-surprise. He beat out Seth Lugo of the Royals and Emmanuel Clase of the Guardians, who finished second and third, respectively. The Royals Cole Ragans and former Brewer Corbin Burnes of the Orioles rounded out the top five vote-getters.
The Cy Young Award dates back to 1956, and the Brewers have won three awards all time. Rollie Fingers and Pete Vuckovich won the award for Milwaukee in the AL back-to-back in 1981 and 1982, respectively. The Brewers then faced a lengthy drought for the award until Burnes won the NL version of the honor in 2021.
Burnes remains the last Brewer to win the award and even get votes for the award after coming in eighth place last season.
