Mears joins the team after being traded by the Rockies Saturday
The Brewers added right-handed reliever Nick Mears to the active roster prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Marlins, optioning Tyler Jay back to Triple-A Nashville after he made his Brewers debut on Saturday.

Mears, 27, was acquired in a deal Saturday with the Rockies, with pitching prospects Bradley Blalock and Yujanyer Herrera sent to Colorado. Mears, 27 and under club control through 2027, has made 41 appearances this season, pitching to a 5.56 ERA with 57 strikeouts over 45 1⁄3 innings, though his peripherals (2.60 FIP) suggest some bad luck. He also told Adam McCalvy prior to today’s game that he found out he was tipping pitches before the All-Star break.

Jay, 30, pitched a scoreless inning in Saturday’s loss to the Marlins, allowing two walks and striking out one. In four major league appearances this season (three with the Mets), he’s allowed five runs (four earned) over 5 2⁄3 innings with four strikeouts. He made just one appearance with Triple-A Nashville after being acquired in a minor deal on July 21. He’ll return to the Sounds for the time being.
