Brewers will play night games all three days, if necessary
Major League Baseball officially announced the game times for the NL and AL Wild Card Series. The series will pit the No. 3 seed (the worst record of the three division winners in each league) against the No. 6 seed (the third-best record of the non-division winning teams in each league) and the No. 4 seed against the No. 5 seed (the best and second-best non-division winner, respectively) begin on Tuesday and conclude on Thursday in a best-of-three format.
The Brewers will host either the New York Mets or the Arizona Diamondbacks, pending New York’s doubleheader with the Braves on Monday. Read on below to learn more about the wild card series and Milwaukee’s potential opponent.
Who will Milwaukee play?
That is the biggest unanswered question left in a regular season that is already over for all but two teams, who just so happen to be two teams fighting for playoff spots. Milwaukee’s (and San Diego’s) opponent will remain up in the air until tomorrow, when the Braves and Mets battle in a doubleheader in Atlanta. Entering Monday, the Braves, Mets, and Diamondbacks are all in a virtual tie (separated by percentage points). Here’s how the postseason bracket will shake out, depending on Monday’s outcomes.
Braves win both games: No. 5 seed goes to Atlanta, No. 6 seed goes to Arizona
Both teams win one game: No. 5 seed goes to Atlanta, No. 6 seed goes to New York
Mets win both games: No. 5 seed goes to New York, No. 6 seed goes to Arizona
Either the Brewers will take on the Diamondbacks or the Mets. If you want to play the D-backs, you’re cheering for a sweep; if you want to play the Mets, you’re cheering for a series split. It’s that simple.
When are the games?
Regardless of who the Brewers ultimately welcome to American Family Field, their game times are already set. The Crew will kick off their postseason with game one of the NL Wild Card Series on Tuesday, Oct. 1 with first pitch scheduled for 4:32 p.m.
Game two is on Wednesday, Oct. 2 with first pitch scheduled for 6:38 p.m. and game three (if necessary) is on Thursday, Oct. 3 with first pitch scheduled for 7:38 p.m.
All three of Milwaukee’s games will be aired on ABC/ESPN, along with the other three wild card series (Tigers vs. Astros, Royals vs. Orioles, and TBD vs. Padres).
Who would Milwaukee play if they move on?
If the Brewers can make it out of the wild card round, they’ll travel to Philadelphia to begin a best-of-five series with the Phillies in the National League Division Series. Games one and two would be in Philadelphia on Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6; games three and four would be in Milwaukee on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, Oct. 9; and game five would be in Philadelphia on Friday, Oct. 11. All five of those games would be aired on Fox/FS1.
