Top prospects including Luis Lara, Brock Wilken will head to Arizona for AFL season running from October to mid-November
The Arizona Fall League rosters and schedule have been announced, including eight Brewers prospects on the Peoria Javelinas.
The AFL, which kicks off on October 7 and runs through mid-November, includes six teams made up of prospects from all 30 MLB organizations. The Javelinas’ roster includes players from the Brewers, Braves, Mariners, Marlins, and Padres.
Milwaukee’s prospects included on the roster include pitcher Ryan Birchard, pitcher Will Childers, pitcher Coleman Crow (organizational prospect No. 30), pitcher Mark Manfredi, pitcher Nick Merkel, infielder Juan Baez (No. 27), infielder Brock Wilken (No. 7), and outfielder Luis Lara (No. 16).
Notable Brewers AFL alumni (dating back to its establishment in 1992) include Tyler Black (2022), Ryan Braun (2006), Lorenzo Cain (2008 & 2009), Jeff Cirillo (1993), Khris Davis (2012), Tim Dillard (2007), Prince Fielder (2005), Mike Fiers (2010), Scooter Gennett (2011), Josh Hader (2015), Bill Hall (2001 & 2002), J.J. Hardy (2002, 2003, & 2005), Corey Hart (2002 & 2005), Keston Hiura (2018), Adrian Houser (2015 & 2017), Jeremy Jeffress (2008 & 2010), Geoff Jenkins (1996 & 1997), Jonathan Lucroy (2009), Jimmy Nelson (2012), Manny Parra (2006), Jeferson Quero (2022), Tyrone Taylor (2014), Tyler Thornburg (2011), Abner Uribe (2021 & 2022), and Rickie Weeks (2003 & 2004), among dozens of others.
The Javelinas will begin play on Tuesday, Oct. 8 against the Desert Dogs. Milwaukee’s spring training home, American Family Fields of Phoenix, will also host a doubleheader on Saturday, Oct. 26.
In addition to the eight Brewers prospects on the roster, Brewers’ minor league pitching coach Paul Moeller and trainer Andrew Staehling are also included as part of the team staff.
