Janson Junk optioned to Triple-A as Owen Miller clears waivers
The Milwaukee Brewers have officially added right-handed pitcher Aaron Civale to the active roster ahead of his debut with the team Friday night in Los Angeles.
Right-hander Janson Junk was optioned to Triple-A Nashville to open up the roster spot. Additionally, infield utilityman Owen Miller cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A.
Civale, 29, is lined up to start against the Dodgers Friday night. He’s had a rough season with Tampa Bay, with a 5.07 ERA and 84 strikeouts across 87 innings (17 starts). Across a six-year MLB career, he’s 33-32 with a 4.10 ERA, 4.11 FIP, and 512 strikeouts over 562 1⁄3 innings in 103 appearances (all starts).
Junk, 28, has bounced back and forth between Triple-A and the Brewers all season. In three appearances with Milwaukee this year, he’s allowed five runs over five innings with three strikeouts. He’s been solid for Nashville, with a 2.81 ERA and 33 strikeouts across 32 innings of work (15 appearances, three starts).
Miller, 27, was designated for assignment on Monday to open up a 40-man spot as Garrett Mitchell made his long-awaited return. He’ll remain with Nashville, which is where he was prior to the DFA. In just 14 games with Milwaukee this year, he’s hit .185/.185/.222 with a double and three RBIs. He’s also struggled with Nashville, hitting .259/.344/.382 with three homers, 20 RBIs, and 28 runs scored in 46 games.
