Teams across the baseball landscape report for spring training this week
As we brace for another winter storm here in Wisconsin, the Brewers’ pitchers and catchers report for duty today at American Family Fields of Phoenix in Maryvale, a sure sign of spring popping in on our cold, northern winter.
By the end of the day on Thursday, every team will have had its first workout, with full teams reporting for duty early next week. The Brewers open their Cactus League schedule next Saturday, February 22, with a 1:10 p.m. game versus Cincinnati.
Hope springs eternal, they say, and I think that the sunny early photos that reach us from Arizona and Florida hit a little differently for those of us who will continue to leave a shovel by the door for at least another month and a half. While questions remain about a Brewers roster that has done very little in terms of external improvement this offseason, they are still a team coming off consecutive division championships and have every reason to believe they can do it again.
We have many reasons to continue to be optimistic about our squad, and let us hope that the joy and positivity of the early days of spring training can be a bit of a lift for any who might need it.
As a reminder, the full spring training TV and radio broadcast schedule can be found here.
