Brewers look to avoid sweep against Dodgers
After a pair of games full of highs and lows, the Brewers look to the series finale Sunday afternoon to avoid a sweep against the Dodgers.
With recent injuries and an uptick in performance from certain players, the lineup is beginning to take on a different shape.
Most notably, Jackson Chourio will take his spot atop the batting order for the second game in a row. His recent form is certainly deserving of the prominent role. Since June 1, Chourio has a .326 batting average, including an active 12-game hitting streak.
With Chourio in left field, Blake Perkins will be in center field. Recently returned from injury, Garrett Mitchell will be in right field. While Mitchell hasn’t locked down an everyday starting role, he’s appeared in every game since his return.
Vinny Capra will take third base as he celebrates his birthday. It’s only his second appearance of the season as playing time opens up in the wake of Joey Ortiz’s injury.
Willy Adames, Brice Turang, and Rhys Hoskins fill out the infield. Hoskins might be back to his power-hitting form, with a pair of homers this weekend.
Eric Haase will be behind the plate as he forms a battery with Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel hasn’t been inspiring in his short stint with the Brewers. However, his recent 5 1⁄3 inning outing against the Rockies while allowing just two runs was much more encouraging than his Milwaukee debut. Christian Yelich is the DH as William Contreras gets the day off.
As for the Dodgers, the Brewers will get the chance to face pitcher Justin Wrobleski, who’s making his MLB debut. He has a 4.35 ERA across just 10 1⁄3 innings in Triple-A, but he also sported a 14.81 K/9 strikeout rate. Much of his experience this season came at Double-A with a 3.06 ERA over 67 2⁄3 innings. It will be a fascinating test for both the youngster and the Brewers lineup as they look to take down the Dodgers before heading home to Milwaukee.
Win tonight
