The Brewers look to get their first winning record of the season, extend their winning streak to five games with Elvin Rodríguez on the mound
Riding a four-game winning streak, the Brewers are back in action this evening. They’ll face the Reds in game three of their four-game series, with a series win on the line tonight. The Brewers will also have a chance to post their first winning record of the season.
After a rough outing in his first start, Elvin Rodríguez is back on the mound to make his second start this season. In his first outing against the Royals, he allowed four runs in four innings. This will be his second start with the Brewers and seventh career start in the majors. He will face a Reds lineup that has been held to two runs in the last four games, but has also put up a 14-run game this season. The Reds’ lineup is almost the same from that game, with Santiago Espinal in the lineup instead of Spencer Steer.
Meanwhile, the Reds will start right-hander Brady Singer in game three of the series. Singer was acquired by the Reds from the Royals in the offseason, in a trade that sent Jonathan India and Joey Wiemer to Kansas City. He pitched seven shutout innings in his Reds debut against the Rangers, allowing just one hit and two runs while striking out eight. Over his career, Singer has a 4.24 ERA and 3.95 FIP. The Brewers faced Singer last season while he was with the Royals. He allowed a single run in 5 1⁄3 innings in a 6-4 Royals win. That is his only career appearance against the Brewers.
With the righty on the mound, the Brewers will stick with the same lineup from last night. Brice Turang leads off and currently holds the Brewers’ home run lead at two following his homer last night. Jackson Chourio bats second and is currently on a seven-game hitting streak following his five-strikeout first game. Christian Yelich and William Contreras bat third and fourth, and both are looking to overcome slow starts to the season; each of them have just two hits in 30-plus plate appearances. Sal Frelick has also had a hot start to the season, batting .321 in eight games, all while batting fifth in the lineup. Rounding out the lineup are Rhys Hoskins, Oliver Dunn, Garrett Mitchell, and Joey Ortiz.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. It’s the usual for coverage tonight. The game will be televised on FanDuel Sports Wisconsin and broadcast on the Brewers Radio Network.
