Brewers head to St. Louis for weekend series
After an up-and-down start to the season, the Brewers head to St. Louis for a three-game series. They’ll look to break the .500 mark, currently sitting at 13-13, and start building some momentum as the season rolls on.
There have been plenty of unexpected standouts, including tonight’s starter, Chad Patrick. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 2.11 ERA over 21 1⁄3 innings pitched. With an unusual pitch combination, Patrick’s been above-average in getting batters to chase this season. He leads with his cutter, a pitch that’s limited hard contact, and his secondary pitch is a four-seamer that has held batters to a .204 xBA.
Brice Turang is another standout and he’s back in the leadoff spot tonight. After his “quantum leap” early last year, it looks like this year’s improvement could be a permanent feature in his profile. His season’s been a standout across baseball, not just the Brewers, hitting .346 which ranks fifth in baseball.
Jackson Chourio, Christian Yelich, and William Contreras fill out the rest of the top of the order. Behind them, Sal Frelick, Rhys Hoskins, and Garrett Mitchell bat 5-6-7.
Finishing off the lineup, Joey Ortiz and Caleb Durbin take the 8- and 9-holes. While Ortiz has struggled immensely with contact quality, he’s still displaying a solid plate approach which could lead to an eventual bounce back in the coming weeks.
First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. CT on FanDuel Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
