Brewers, looking to secure their fourth consecutive series win, will send Chad Patrick to the bump against former friend Corbin Burnes
After that rough 0-4 start to the season, the Brewers are now on the verge of their fourth consecutive series win, as they just need a win today or tomorrow against the Diamondbacks to do so.
They’ll send Chad Patrick to the hill tonight in the desert. Patrick, who was drafted by the Diamondbacks, has allowed just one run over 10 innings in wins against the Royals and Reds. While he isn’t the flashiest pitcher, Patrick has done his job since joining the rotation early in the season.
On the other side, the Brewers will match up against their former draftee, Corbin Burnes. Traded prior to last season, Burnes had a solid year with the Orioles before cashing in with a huge six-year, $210-million deal with Arizona this offseason. He hasn’t been great in two starts this season, allowing four runs in each (though only six of those eight were earned). His strikeouts are still there, with 11 across 9 1⁄3 innings, but he’s had issues with command as he’s walked seven and hit two batters.
Brice Turang bats in his usual leadoff spot against the right-handed Burnes, followed by Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich, today’s DH. The rest of the lineup is Pat Murphy’s typical one against righties, with William Contreras, Sal Frelick, Rhys Hoskins, Garrett Mitchell, Joey Ortiz, and Oliver Dunn rounding out the order.
Additionally, in positive injury news, Brandon Woodruff has been sent to Triple-A Nashville to begin a rehab assignment. He’ll need to make a few starts as he ramps up to his regular workload before hopefully returning in early May.
