Brewers look to rebound for second series of homestand
After a disappointing series against the Cardinals, the Brewers will look for a bounce back against the Colorado Rockies.
In the first game of the series, Frankie Montas takes to the mound looking for a new spark of his own. His past two starts, both against sub-.500 teams, went six innings while allowing four runs. Montas’ walk rate hasn’t come down much since joining the Brewers, but his home run rate has seen a noticeable dip. If he doesn’t offer many free passes, it will be an interesting test for Montas against another struggling offense.
Brice Turang is back in the leadoff spot, followed by Jackson Chourio and William Contreras.
That’s a familiar trio at the top with Garrett Mitchell taking cleanup duties. Mitchell’s been rounding into form with a .364 batting average over his last 22 at-bats, spanning seven games. He’s also nabbed three stolen bases in that time with two home runs.
With Turang at second base, the rest of the infield includes Willy Adames at shortstop and Joey Ortiz and Jake Bauers on the corners.
Contreras is behind the dish, leaving Hoskins for the designated hitter role.
The outfield looks scary for opposing teams, even without Christian Yelich. With Chourio in left field, Mitchell in right field, and Blake Perkins in the center, it poses a defensive wall with tremendous offensive upside. If Mitchell continues his hot streak and Perkins performs similarly to his 119 wRC+ in August, the lineup could break out of its mini slump any day.
First pitch is at 5:10 p.m. on Bally Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
