Brewers look to repeat after Game 1 win
The Milwaukee Brewers took Game 1 of today’s doubleheader with a gripping extra-innings finish and it only continues to get better on a day full of baseball with an afternoon matchup.
DL Hall makes his return to the mound for the Brewers for the first time since August 11. In that outing, he went 4 2⁄3 innings against the Reds, so it will be a repeat matchup for the young starter. He allowed three runs in that game, but only one was earned while picking up nine strikeouts.
As for the Reds, 2023 draft pick Rhett Lowder will make his major league debut. He spent the majority of the season at Double-A with a 4.31 ERA, but FanGraphs lists his fastball, changeup, and slider as all plus-pitches.
Brice Turang is back in the lineup and batting leadoff after starting the first game on the bench. He entered late in the game for a pinch-hit single. Jake Bauers is starting at first base, another pinch-hitter in the first game. Andruw Monasterio and Willy Adames will field the left side of the dirt.
In the outfield, Garrett Mitchell, Blake Perkins, and Sal Frelick earn starting duties. Jackson Chourio had an injury scare in Game 1, but was able to finish out the game. It looks like he’ll get some rest for the backend of the doubleheader.
William Contreras played his part with a home run in Game 1 as he remains in the lineup at designated hitter. Eric Haase will instead form the battery with Hall.
First pitch is at 5:40 p.m. on Bally Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
