Brewers look for series win in rubber match
Coming off a heart-wrenching loss that snapped their six-game win streak, the Brewers will look to bounce back in St. Louis against the Cardinals in Thursday’s rubber match.
Freddy Peralta is on the hill for the Crew with St. Louis countering with Miles Mikolas. Both Peralta and Mikolas have had middling seasons, with a 4.00 ERA (4.18 FIP) for Peralta and a 5.41 ERA (4.20 FIP) for Mikolas. Peralta is coming off a strong six-inning performance against the Guardians, in which he allowed one run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts while throwing only 81 pitches, the fewest he’d thrown since April. Mikolas is coming off three consecutive starts of four-plus earned runs, including five runs allowed against the Dodgers last Friday.
The lineup is mostly unchanged with another righty on the mound. Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio still take the top of the lineup, but William Contreras bats third and Garrett Mitchell bats fourth as they trade places. Gary Sánchez is at catcher and bats eighth, while Willy Adames, Rhys Hoskins, Sal Frelick, and Joey Ortiz all remain in the lineup.
In transaction news, outfielder Blake Perkins was reinstated from the 10-day IL, with infielder Tyler Black optioned to Triple-A Nashville to open up the roster spot. Also, reliever Enoli Paredes was sent to Nashville on a rehab assignment.
First pitch is at 1:15 p.m. on Bally Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
