Streaking Brewers look for series victory in St. Louis
The Milwaukee Brewers have won six straight games, their longest streak of the season, and now hold a commanding 11.5-game lead in the National League Central division. Their opponent tonight, the St. Louis Cardinals, dropped out of second place in the division with their loss to the visiting Brewers on Tuesday night in the first game of this three-game set. With a win tonight, Milwaukee would put another dent in the Cardinals’ quickly-fading postseason hopes.
On the mound for the Brewers will be Tobias Myers, who has quickly become one of the heroes of the team’s unexpected season. He wasn’t as sharp as usual in his last start, which came last Wednesday against the Dodgers, but Milwaukee still got the win despite four runs coming against Myers (though only two of them were earned). He’ll face off tonight against St. Louis’ Kyle Gibson, who has been basically exactly what you would expect: his 99 ERA+ this season reflects pretty accurately the roughly-league-average pitcher that he has been for years.
The Brewers will trot out the same lineup tonight that they used in yesterday’s 3-2 win. Despite having won six in a row, the Milwaukee offense has scored more than five runs in a game just once in their last 10, and has just seven runs total in their last three contests. Pat Murphy would surely like to see a little more hitting from his club, especially as you’d expect Devin Williams might not be available tonight after a stressful inning yesterday.
First pitch is at 6:45 p.m. on Bally Sports Wisconsin and it’s also on national TV tonight on FS1. Of note: FS1 is showing a short program about Bob Uecker after the game. Information in the tweet below the lineups! You will also, as always, find it on the Brewers Radio Network.
