Brewers aim for series split with Tobias Myers on the mound
Coming off a nail-biting win Wednesday night, the Brewers are looking to complete a series split with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday afternoon at rain-free American Family Field.
Tobias Myers takes the hill for the Crew in what has been a very solid rookie year for the 26-year-old righty. In 18 games (17 starts), Myers is 6-5 with a 2.79 ERA and 84 strikeouts across 93 2⁄3 innings. He’s allowed just two earned runs across his last three starts spanning 16 1⁄3 innings, striking out 16 in that time. His last time out against the Reds he pitched 7 1⁄3 scoreless with a career-high nine strikeouts.
Opposing Myers is familiar opponent Jack Flaherty, who spent six-plus seasons with the Cardinals before being traded to the Orioles last year. He signed a one-year deal with Detroit this past offseason and was once again traded at the deadline to the Dodgers in July. Across 20 starts this year, he’s 9-5 with a 2.97 ERA and 150 strikeouts in 118 1⁄3 innings. He’s made two starts with the Dodgers, allowing four runs over 11 2⁄3 innings (3.09 ERA), striking out 17 and getting the win in each game.
Brice Turang is in the leadoff spot followed by Jackson Chourio and Garrett Mitchell. Jake Bauers is the DH and bats sixth, behind lineup stalwarts William Contreras and Willy Adames. Rhys Hoskins bats seventh as the first baseman with Sal Frelick and Joey Ortiz rounding out the lineup.
First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. on Bally Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
