Brewers attempt to avoid sweep at hands of lowly Marlins
After a pair of disappointing losses at the hands of the Miami Marlins, the Brewers are facing the possibility of a sweep against one of the worst teams in baseball. Entering the series, Miami had the second-worst record in baseball ahead of only the White Sox, though they’ve since passed the Rockies with a 2-0 weekend leading into Sunday.
To avoid the sweep, the Brewers will turn to Tobias Myers, one of Milwaukee’s most consistent arms this season. Myers is 6-4 with a 3.14 ERA and is coming off a loss against the Cubs his last time out, allowing three runs (two earned) across 5 1⁄3 innings. The Marlins will counter with Kyle Tyler, who has made five appearances (four starts) this season, with a 3.92 ERA and 15 strikeouts across 20 2⁄3 innings. He allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 4 2⁄3 innings of work against the Orioles in his last start.
In transaction news, the Brewers activated reliever Devin Williams this morning, designating right-hander Janson Junk for assignment in the process.
Brice Turang bats leadoff for Milwaukee today, with William Contreras batting second as the DH and Jackson Chourio in the three-hole. Jake Bauers is in left field and bats fourth, with Willy Adames batting fifth. Garrett Mitchell rounds out the outfield, with Rhys Hoskins batting sixth, Joey Ortiz batting eighth, and Eric Haase at catcher batting ninth.
First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. on Bally Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
