The Brewers continue to rack up defensive hardware
Earlier this week, Rawlings announced the winners of the annual Gold Glove Awards, where Brice Turang and Sal Frelick were honored at second base and right field, respectively. Tonight, the Brewers learned that they got even more defensive hardware.
Turang was honored as the Platinum Glove winner, recognizing him (via fan vote) as the best defensive player at any position in the National League. Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh won the American League’s version of the award. Additionally, the Brewers won the National League’s Gold Glove Team Award for the second straight season, with the Toronto Blue Jays also repeating as winners in the American League.
This is the first Platinum Glove for a Brewer since the award’s inception in 2011. The Team Gold Glove Award was new in 2020, and in a strange quirk, no National League team outside the NL Central has yet won it (the Cubs won in 2020, the Cardinals in ‘21 and ‘22, and now the Brewers in ‘23 and ‘24).
Awards season continues on Tuesday with the Silver Slugger announcements, for which Willy Adames, Jackson Chourio, and William Contreras are finalists.
