Top Pitching Performance of the Week
There were plenty of strong starting performances this week even as Milwaukee faced off against fellow division leaders in the Dodgers and Guardians.
- Colin Rea bounced back from a rough outing against L.A. to go seven-plus scoreless innings in a win over the Guardians on Sunday afternoon, allowing just two hits and two hit-batsmen with five strikeouts.
- Like Rea, Freddy Peralta bounced back from a rough start against the Dodgers with a strong performance against Cleveland on Saturday night. He earned the win with six innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
- Frankie Montas had his best start since joining Milwaukee, allowing three runs (none earned) across five innings with six strikeouts against the Dodgers on Wednesday night.
- Aaron Civale picked up his second consecutive win with Milwaukee against his former team. He allowed no runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts in a victory over the Guardians to kick off the three-game sweep.
- Tobias Myers made the seventh start, and while he wasn’t lights out by any means (5 2⁄3 innings, four runs (two earned), eight hits, one walk, one strikeout), he did enough to help Milwaukee salvage a series split with the Dodgers.
Top Hitting Performance of the Week
William Contreras led the offense this week with four homers and a double, driving in five runs and scoring six times. He hit .250/.333/.792 across 24 at-bats.
Injury Notes & Roster Moves
- The biggest roster move of the week was the announcement that Christian Yelich had opted for season-ending surgery to hopefully fix his lingering back issues. He underwent surgery on Friday and is expected to be ready at full health for the 2025 season.
- Outside of the Yelich announcement, the only other roster moves came all the way back on Monday. Blake Perkins was placed on the 10-day IL with a left calf strain and DL Hall was optioned to Triple-A Nashville after making the start on Sunday against the Reds. To fill those spots, Tyler Black was recalled from Nashville and Bryan Hudson was activated from the IL. Perkins can return as early as Aug. 22, and it seems possible he’ll miss the minimum amount of time required.
- Relievers Rob Zastryzny (Triple-A), Enoli Paredes (High-A), and Trevor Megill (High-A) are all currently on rehab assignments with the potential to return in the next couple of days. Megill currently has a “mid-to-late August” expected return while Zastryzny and Paredes are both listed as TBD per Milwaukee’s Injury Tracker.
