Top Pitching Performance of the Week
It was a rough week for the pitching staff. They allowed 27 runs in six games, with most of the starters and relievers getting roughed up at some point. Freddy Peralta’s start on Wednesday was an encouraging one, though. He put up a quality start, pitching six innings and allowing just two runs (both on solo home runs). He limited the Braves to three hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Top Hitting Performance of the Week
Though the offense had 28 runs, it was a balanced effort. Jackson Chourio has continued his strong play through last week. In six starts, he went 9-for-26 with four RBI, a home run, and a double. Four of his six starts were two-hit performances.
Injury Notes & Roster Moves
- The week started on a rough note with the Brewers placing Trevor Megill on the 15-day IL with a low back strain. The move was retroactive to July 26. The Brewers had hoped he wouldn’t need an IL stint but Megill needed the rest. Tyler Jay was recalled from Nashville to fill the spot, and he stuck around for a few days.
- The Brewers final move before the trade deadline was a trade with a division rival. They made a deal with the Reds, acquiring starting pitcher Frankie Montas for Jakob Junis and Joey Wiemer. Montas reported on Wednesday and made his Brewers debut on Friday against the Nationals.
- Joe Ross also made his return to the rotation as the Brewers activated him for Tuesday’s start. He had a rough outing in his first time back, allowing five runs to the Braves.
- Janson Junk was claimed off of waivers by the Astros.
- Bryan Hudson began a rehab assignment with Nashville on Sunday. In his first appearance, he pitched a scoreless inning and had a strikeout and walk.
- Christian Yelich clarified his injury status last week after his comments caused quite a bit of concern. He clarified that he was looking into his options for this season, whether he would go for surgery or try to rehab. He is choosing the rehab option for now. However, his career is not at risk at all.
- The Brewers signed four more draft picks, finishing up their draft class for this year.
