Top Pitching Performance of the Week
Tobias Myers has been one of the most fascinating developments of this Brewers season, and he put on another show against Pittsburgh last week. In the Brewers’ 9-0 win on Wednesday, Myers threw eight shutout innings while allowing just four hits and a walk. He struck out eight batters, as well, as his performance lowered his season ERA to 3.13.
Top Hitting Performance of the Week
After a slow June, Willy Adames is firing again. This week, Adames had an amazing .417 batting average with two home runs, tallying a team-high nine RBIs. His exceptional performance has him entering the All-Star break with the MLB lead for RBIs at shortstop. Four of his RBIs came in his 4-for-4 performance in Milwaukee’s 9-3 win over the Nationals on Sunday.
Injury Notes & Roster Moves
- The MLB Draft saw the latest influx of young talent into the Brewers’ system, including first round pick Braylon Payne. Payne is an outfielder from Lawrence E. Elkins HS in Texas.
- Joel Kuhnel was brought up from Nashville after veteran starter Dallas Keuchel was designated for assignment. Keuchel made four starts for Milwaukee with a 5.40 ERA over 16 2⁄3 innings.
- Joey Ortiz was activated after his stint on the injured list, bringing a much-needed lift to the offense at third base. In the corresponding move, Vinny Capra was optioned to Triple-A Nashville.
- Jared Koenig is expected to return from the injured list once games kick up again after the All-Star break. According to MLB.com, it’s possible he will spend some time in the minor leagues as he tunes up for major league action again.
- Devin Williams is also nearing a return. On July 14, he made his first rehab appearance with High-A Wisconsin. In Williams’ absence, Trevor Megill has proven more than capable, but Williams return will provide another weapon for the Milwaukee bullpen.
