Sal Frelick goes 3-3, drives in three as Brewers blow late lead
Milwaukee’s offense was firing on all cylinders today, putting up 12 runs. Unfortunately, pitching meltdowns in the first and the ninth innings kept the Brewers from securing the win.
Thomas Pannone, who got the start for Milwaukee, made it just 1⁄3 of an inning. After an error by Caleb Durbin put runners on first and second with one out, Pannone quickly fell apart. Four runs (and zero outs) later, he was pulled for Blake Holub, who quickly retired the side.
Pannone re-entered the game to start the second inning. He immediately gave up another hit and was pulled again, this time for good. Pannone officially left with a forearm injury, which will be something to monitor going forward.
In the top of the second, the Brewers got those runs back. Milwaukee put up five runs on just two extra base hits (Frelick’s two-run home run and a Joey Ortiz triple). A wild pitch here, an RBI groundout there, and all of a sudden, the Brewers were up 5-4.
Milwaukee remained ahead until the bottom of the ninth, which they entered up 12-8. Garrett Stallings gave up two home runs without getting an out, and all of a sudden, it was 12-11. Stallings then struck out Travis Bazzana before giving up a single, at which point he was pulled for Josh Maciejewski. Maciejewski retired two of the next three batters to end the game, but not before giving up the game-tying single.
The best part of this game for the Brewers was that almost everyone got in on the fun. Other than Tyler Black and Jackson Chourio, every Brewer starter got on base. Sal Frelick, the box score standout of the afternoon, went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

New acquisition Manuel Margot had another three RBIs, and catcher Jorge Alfaro had five. Backup infielder Raynel Delgado made the most of his at-bats, going 2-for-2 with a double and a home run.
Craig Yoho, who will hopefully be a bullpen contributor this year, struck out every batter he faced.

Sam McWilliams, signed to a minor league contract, also struck out three batters in a row.
The Brewers will face Cincinnati tomorrow evening. Aaron Ashby is scheduled to take the mound for Milwaukee, looking to rebound from a rough last couple outings. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. CT, and the game will be available on FanDuel Sports Wisconsin, the Brewers Radio Network, and MLB.TV.
