Big first inning, eighth inning rally help guide Brewers to series finale win
The Brewers took their series finale with the Dodgers on Thursday afternoon behind a strong first inning and a big eighth-inning rally to come away with a series split despite dropping the first two on Monday and Tuesday.
With Tobias Myers on the hill, the Brewers were able to provide some early run support. Brice Turang started things off with a double, Jackson Chourio followed with a homer, and William Contreras hit a solo homer two batters later to make it 3-0.

The Dodgers responded in the second inning as Gavin Lux singled and Miguel Rojas grounded into what should have been at least a force out. Instead, Willy Adames threw the ball into right field which allowed Rojas and Lux to move to second and third, respectively. Both runners came around to score on a groundout and a double, pulling back within one at 3-2.
L.A. got the third run back on a trio of singles in the third, as Lux came up with the RBI on his second hit of the game.
The Brewers looked like they were going to threaten in the bottom of the inning as Turang walked and stole second, but a Chourio liner to Enrique Hernández at third turned into a 5-4 double play.
Milwaukee threatened again in the fifth with a two-out rally. Joey Ortiz walked and Turang singled to put runners at the corners. After Turang stole his second base of the day to put runners at second and third, Chourio struck out on a pitch in the dirt to end the threat.
Myers ran into more trouble in the sixth with Lux walking, Rojas singling, and Hernández hitting a two-out RBI single off reliever Elvis Peguero on his first pitch of the game to make it 4-3 Dodgers.
The Brewers once again looked like they might have a rally in the seventh against Alex Vesia, as he walked Gary Sánchez and Rhys Hoskins to start off the inning. A popout, flyout — which came after a questionable strike two call on what could have been ball four to Ortiz — and a strikeout ended those hopes.
Daniel Hudson took over for Vesia in the eighth and got himself into trouble as well. He allowed a leadoff double to Chourio, a walk to Garrett Mitchell, and an infield single to Contreras to load the bases with no outs. Adames then singled to left to tie it up before a pair of well-placed groundouts by Tyler Black and Hoskins tacked on two more runs, making it 6-4 before the inning was over.

After Devin Williams picked up his second save of the year on Wednesday night, he came on looking for his third save in as many chances today. It was a dramaless inning, as he induced a popout from Andy Pages and struck out both Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani to shut things down.

Chourio, Turang, and Contreras each had a pair of hits, making up six of the seven hits on the day for Milwaukee.
Myers went 5 2⁄3 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout. Peguero, Bryan Hudson, and Williams combined to allow no runs on two hits and four strikeouts over the last 3 1⁄3 innings, though Peguero did allow the inherited runner to score in the sixth.
The Brewers now welcome the Guardians to town for three games beginning Friday night in another series of division leaders. Aaron Civale is the starter for Milwaukee with Gavin Williams on the hill for Cleveland. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
