Hoskins provides the lone run, Myers strikes out nine, and Williams records his first save of the season
After the Brewers recorded 42 runs and 59 hits in four games, fans were waiting to see what the Brewers would do tonight. However, this game was about the polar opposite of the last four games. The Brewers only had one run and two hits. However, one thing was in common with those games: The Brewers won.
Early in this game, both starting pitchers (Tobias Myers and Nick Martinez) were unhittable. Through the first three innings, neither pitcher allowed a hit. The only baserunner came in the top of the third when Ty France reached base on a fielding error by Willy Adames. Both teams broke up their side of the no-hitter in the fourth inning. TJ Friedl hit a two-out single, and Gary Sánchez repeated that in the bottom of the inning. Through the first four innings, Myers had recorded eight strikeouts, which was already a career-high mark for him.
The next two innings went by with no baserunners as well, though Myers only added on one more strikeout. In the seventh, both teams got their next baserunner. Spencer Steer singled with two outs in the seventh but was left on base. Sánchez got on base for the second time when he was hit by a Martinez pitch, and manager Pat Murphy had Blake Perkins pinch run. Perkins went for a steal but was thrown out. Murphy challenged and the call was upheld, erasing the Brewers’ lone baserunner in the seventh.
Myers went back out for the eighth and allowed a leadoff single to France, but got Jake Fraley to line out. That ended his day at 7 1⁄3 innings pitched. He allowed just three hits and struck out nine in the start.

Joel Payamps came in to finish the eighth. He kept pinch runner Stuart Fairchild at first base by striking out Noelvi Marte, then induced a groundout from Jonathan India to end the eighth.
The Reds also went to their bullpen to start the eighth inning, bringing in Tony Santillan. Both Adames and Sal Frelick got Santillan to work before recording outs. That brought up Rhys Hoskins with two outs. On the second pitch he saw, he hit a fastball out to left field, off the loge level, giving the Brewers their lone run of the game.

With the Brewers holding a 1-0 lead, the crowd was full of energy as Devin Williams came out for his first save opportunity of the season. It was a tense inning as each batter worked the count full, including a 3-0 count against Friedl with two outs. However, Williams struck out all three batters, locking down the save and finishing the 1-0 shutout.

The Brewers go for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon. They have yet to announce their starter, though it is suspected that DL Hall may return from the IL. Meanwhile, the Reds will start Nick Lodolo. First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m.
