Milwaukee falls to 2-4 this spring
The Brewers were unable to capitalize on any positive momentum from yesterday’s game against Cleveland, losing 9-3 to the Dodgers and 7-1 to the Diamondbacks. For those of you who couldn’t catch the games, here’s a quick recap of each.

Milwaukee looked really good to start. The Brewers quickly went up 3-0 on Yoshinobu Yamamoto behind the strength of home runs from Vinny Capra and Garrett Mitchell. Jorge Alfaro also had a two-out, two-strike RBI double. Thomas Pannone — and his revamped delivery — started the game with two hitless innings.

All of that fell apart once Pannone was pulled in favor of Carlos Rodriguez. Rodriguez promptly gave up six runs, a deficit that proved too great to recover from. The Brewers mounted a very brief comeback in the bottom of the ninth, putting runners on second and third with one out. Unfortunately, the Dodgers’ Sam Carlson retired Eric Bitonti and Juan Baez back-to-back to end it.
Standout performances: Garrett Mitchell (2-3, HR, 2B), Vinny Capra (1-3, HR), Thomas Pannone (2 IP, 0 H), Ryan Middendorf (1 IP, 2 K)
MIL @ AZ (Box Score)
Unlike the Dodgers game, this one was never really close. The Diamondbacks, already up 2-0, loaded the bases on Tyler Alexander in the second. Alexander was pulled, and Josh Maciejewski immediately gave up a grand slam to make it 6-0. Ernesto Martinez Jr. got a run back with a single in the top of the fourth, scoring Oliver Dunn from third. The Diamondbacks scored again in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-1 — how the game would eventually end. Eric Haase led the Brewers in hits (with two), while nobody else had more than one. Martinez had the lone RBI on his single.
Standout performances: Ernesto Martinez Jr. (110-mph exit velocity on his RBI single), Eric Haase (2-3)
Not much to write home about today, but in terms of the players to watch noted from earlier today:
- Caleb Durbin: 0-for-4 with two Ks
- Dunn: 0-for-2 with a walk, run, and two Ks
- Capra: 1-for-3 with his third HR of spring and two Ks
- Martinez Jr.: 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI
