Cooper Pratt, Ernesto Martinez Jr. headline a group of nine players moved to minor league spring camp
The Brewers have made their first moves of spring training, reassigning nine players to minor league camp ahead of their game Friday. The players moved include C David García, OFs Jimmy Herron and Luis Lara, 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr., SS Cooper Pratt, 2B/C Anthony Seigler, and LHPs Tyler Jay, Thomas Pannone, and Bruce Zimmermann.

Given that only the three pitchers have had any regular season major league experience, the reassignments shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Among those three, all of them have been roughed up this spring with ERAs exceeding 10.80 (Pannone: 10:80 ERA; Jay: 16.20 ERA; Zimmermann: 27.00 ERA), albeit in just a few innings of work.
Pratt, Martinez, and Lara are probably the biggest names of the group, as Pratt ranks as Milwaukee’s No. 2 prospect, Lara ranks as the team’s No. 21 prospect, and Martinez figures to be in contention for a midseason call up.
The nine reassignments also reduces Milwaukee’s major league camp size from 62 players down to 53 players, with plenty more cuts to come in the next few weeks as the team gets down to a 26-man roster before the season opener later this month.
