Elvis has left the building … for now. The Milwaukee Brewers announced Monday that they optioned right-handed reliever Elvis Peguero to Triple-A Nashville. While the team didn’t immediately announce a corresponding move, it’s likely a sign that right-hander Trevor Megill will return from the injured list prior to the Brewers’ series opener Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Trevor Megill is set to return from the IL following his final rehab outing yesterday.

Elvis Peguero Optioned to Triple-A, Clearing Roster Spot for Trevor Megill
Peguero is 7-3 with a 3.00 ERA and two saves in 49 appearances this season for Milwaukee. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last eight appearances but 15 of his 24 runners have gone on to score this season, including five of eight in his last nine outings.
Those struggles, combined with the fact that Peguero is one of the few Brewers relievers with remaining minor league options, as well as the need to clear a roster spot for Megill, left him the odd man out of Milwaukee’s bullpen picture.
Megill has been out since July 29 with a lower back strain. Prior to his stint on the IL, Megill helped anchor Milwaukee’s injury-riddled relief corps, posting a 2.41 ERA with 40 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings in 35 appearances. After missing time early in the season with a concussion, the hard-throwing Megill slid into the closer’s role with Devin Williams on the injured list. Given that chance, he converted 20 of 22 save opportunities.
Getting Megill back gives manager Pat Murphy another ninth-inning option as he eases Williams back into the mix after missing nearly four months to recover and rehab from surgery to repair stress fractures in his back during spring training. With the Brewers having a legitimate shot at a deep postseason run, adding a fireballer like Megill to the back end of the bullpen should bolster those chances.
