Logan Henderson continues to dominate with Triple-A Nashville
Each week, I’ll be bringing you a roundup of the Brewers minor league affiliates, including score updates, key players, and more. Here is the week 21 roundup.
Triple-A Nashville
The Sounds lost four of six to the Durham Bulls (57-63 overall; 21-24 second half) in a closely-fought series, falling to 62-57 overall and 24-20 in the second half, five games behind Columbus for the International League West lead.
Wes Clarke hit three homers for the Sounds this week, driving in five and scoring five while slashing .261/.370/.739. Carlos D. Rodriguez led the team with eight hits for a .348/.375/.435 line, while Freddy Zamora had six hits in just 14 at-bats to lead the team with a .429 batting average. As a team, the Sounds hit .235/.329/.390 with six homers and 23 runs scored.
Logan Henderson continues to mow down hitters for Nashville, as he went six scoreless innings in a win this week, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. DL Hall, who was sent back to Triple-A after his last start with the Brewers, got the win in a six-inning performance, allowing one run and striking out four. Jacob Misiorowski and Craig Yoho have both been strong in the bullpen, combining this week to allow no runs over four innings with six strikeouts. The Sounds pitching staff finished the week with a 3.52 ERA, striking out 57 across 53 ⅔ innings.
The Sounds return home to welcome the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (58-60 overall; 23-20 second half) this week. Nashville is 7-5 against Jacksonville this season.
Double-A Biloxi
The Shuckers struggled this week, dropping five of six to the Mississippi Braves (54-59 overall; 23-22 second half) to fall to 55-56 overall and 25-19 in the second half, though they hold a 0.5-game lead over Montgomery in the Southern League South second-half standings.
Lamar Sparks led the team with five hits, slashing .294/.368/.353 with two RBIs while Mike Boeve went 4-for-9 to improve his season line to .338/.415/.471. Casey Martin picked up four hits, including a homer, while swiping a pair of bags. As a team, the Shuckers hit .196/.299/.272 with three homers and just 11 runs scored.
Nick Merkel was solid in two long-relief appearances, allowing no runs across 5 ⅔ innings with a team-high eight strikeouts. Brett Wichrowski got pinned with the loss despite a strong start, striking out six and allowing one run over five innings. The pitching staff finished the week with a 3.98 ERA, tallying 60 strikeouts across 52 innings.
The Shuckers head to Birmingham to battle the Barons (60-54 overall; 19-26 second half). Biloxi was swept across six games against the Barons earlier this season.
High-A Wisconsin
The Timber Rattlers split six games with the Peoria Chiefs (50-63 overall; 24-24 second half) to move to 70-43 overall and 28-19 in the second half. They now have a 3.5-game lead over Quad Cities in the Midwest League West second-half standings.
Luis Lara and Cooper Pratt both slugged homers for the Rattlers, while Eduardo Garcia drove in a team-high four runs with six hits, slashing .316/.364/.474. Lara also stole a base and slashed .294/.429/.471 over 17 at-bats. As a team, Wisconsin hit .242/.329/.333 with two homers and 27 runs scored.
Jeferson Figueroa spanned seven innings in two relief appearances, allowing two runs and striking out seven. Brian Fitzpatrick worked six scoreless frames in a win, striking out three. Trevor Megill and Enoli Paredes were both solid in rehab appearances, spanning two scoreless innings each with Megill striking out two and Paredes striking out one. As a staff, the Rattlers finished the week with a 3.29 ERA, striking out 45 batters over 52 innings.
The Rattlers head to Michigan to take on the Great Lakes Loons (59-53 overall; 25-21 second half). Wisconsin went 2-4 against the Loons back in May.
Single-A Carolina
The Mudcats had another series split, going 3-3 with the Delmarva Shorebirds (43-70 overall; 20-28 second half) to move to 67-45 overall and 26-21 in the second half.
Eric Bitonti picked up another homer and two doubles this week, though those were his only hits across 21 at-bats (.143/.174/.381 line). Juan Baez, Miguel Briceno, and Reece Walling led the team with four hits apiece, while Daniel Guilarte had two hits, five walks, and three steals this week. As a team, the Mudcats hit just .178/.278/.228 with one homer and 19 runs scored.
Josh Knoth bounced back with 5 ⅔ scoreless innings this week, striking out a team-high seven batters. Daniel Corniel was also solid in his start, allowing one run over six innings on four hits and three walks with one strikeout. As a pitching staff, the Mudcats had a 3.91 ERA and struck out 43 over 53 innings.
The Mudcats return home where they’ll welcome the Augusta GreenJackets (40-70 overall; 13-32 second half). Carolina went 4-2 against Augusta in April.
