2025 will mark final season for Mudcats in Zebulon, North Carolina
The Milwaukee Brewers’ Low-A affiliate Carolina Mudcats, is set to move to Wilson, North Carolina following the 2025 season as the team rebrands to the Wilson Warbirds for 2026.
The Warbirds, who will take the field in April 2026, marks a return for Carolina League baseball to Wilson, which hosted the Tobs from 1958-68. A new stadium is under construction in downtown Wilson at this time.
The Warbirds moniker is a reference to “vintage military aircraft that continue flying long after their service days,” per the Brewers’ press release.
“Bringing the Warbirds to life was a collaborative and exhaustive process, involving input from fans, community leaders, and the team,” Milwaukee Brewers President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger said. “Scott Starr of Rev Pop, who led the process of developing the team name and associated logos, spent significant time researching everything about Wilson and the region. His travels included visits with local citizens and civic officials, and this proved to be the first big step in branding the team.”
“Today represents the next major step in bringing professional baseball back to Wilson,” Schlesinger said. “We are grateful to all of those who have committed to bringing the Warbirds to life, and to developing this beautiful new downtown stadium and associated private development including a new hotel, multifamily project, and nearby retail. We have enjoyed becoming part of the fabric of Wilson and look forward to even more excitement as we fly toward 2026.”
The Mudcats have called Zebulon, North Carolina home since 1991, coursing through affiliations with the Pirates, Rockies, Marlins, Reds, Guardians, Braves, and Brewers across more than 30 seasons of minor league baseball.
Milwaukee’s franchise has been affiliated with the Mudcats since the 2017 season. Notable former Mudcats who have played for the Brewers include Aaron Ashby, Tyler Black, Jackson Chourio, Trent Grisham, Jacob Misiorowski, Jeferson Quero, Brice Turang, Abner Uribe, and Joey Wiemer.
