Nestor Cortes looks sharp, Sal Frelick smacks two RBI singles as the Brewers end the exhibition season on a high note
The Brewers got the win in their final spring training game of 2025, defeating the Rockies by a score of 4-2.
The Cactus Crew jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Sal Frelick. Frelick waited back on a curveball and served a line drive to left field, scoring Christian Yelich who doubled on a ground ball down the third-base line earlier in the inning.

Nestor Cortes took the mound in the bottom of the first and made quick work of the top of the Rockies’ lineup. He didn’t surrender a hit until Rockies’ outfielder Jordan Beck fought off a bloop single to right field in the third inning. Cortes surrendered just two more hits in his outing, including a seeing-eye single to Ryan McMahon in the fourth and a dropped pop fly to Beck in the fifth. Overall, it was a very encouraging final outing for Cortes, who covered five innings, didn’t allow a run, and struck out five Rockies.

The Brewers added a second run in the third inning thanks to another RBI single from Frelick, this time scoring Jackson Chourio who doubled on a sharp line drive to left field three batters earlier.

Trevor Megill followed Cortes’ excellent outing, taking the mound in the sixth inning with a two-run lead. Megill hit the first batter he faced, spiked a curveball which allowed him to take second base, and then gave up an RBI single to former-Brewer Owen Miller. Miller then stole second base, advanced to third on another curveball in the dirt, and scored on an RBI single by Rockies’ infielder Aaron Schunk, tying the game at two runs apiece. Prospect Will Childers relieved Megill of his duties before he could finish a full inning, retiring the only batter he faced.
The Brewers rolled out the bubble wrap after two at-bats by each of their starters, turning the final half of the game over to a group of young prospects highlighted by Cooper Pratt, Yophery Rodriguez, and Eric Bitonti. However, it was 2024 international signee José Anderson (the Brewers No. 28 ranked prospect) who came through with a two-RBI single in the top of the seventh to give the Brewers a 4-2 lead.
The lead would last the rest of the game thanks to a solid outing by Elvis Peguero, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning, and a two-inning save by prospect Tyler Bryant.
The Brewers finish spring training with a record of 16-14-1 and now turn their attention to Carlos Rodón and the New York Yankees. They will have two days off before regular season action starts on Thursday at 2:05 p.m. CT. Stay tuned for predictions on the upcoming season, coverage on the several roster decisions the organization still faces, and a preview of the Brewers’ first series of the year.
