William Contreras wins Brewers MVP for second straight year, Jackson Chourio unanimously voted as top newcomer
The Milwaukee Brewers announced their 2024 award winners as selected by the Milwaukee Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) Monday morning.
For the second consecutive year, catcher William Contreras was selected as the Brewers Most Valuable Player. Contreras, who appeared in a career-high 155 games, hit .281/.365/.466 (129 OPS+) with 23 homers, 92 RBIs, 99 runs, and nine steals, earning his second career All-Star selection as he finished with a career-high 4.9 bWAR.
Contreras is also a nominee for the 2024 All-MLB Team and a finalist for the 2024 Hank Aaron Award.
Rookie Tobias Myers was voted Brewers Most Valuable Pitcher, as he went 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA, 3.91 FIP, and 127 strikeouts across 138 innings in 27 appearances (25 starts) this season. Myers is the fifth rookie in franchise history to win the award, joining Pete Ladd (1983), Teddy Higuera (1985), Junior Guerra (2016), and Devin Williams (2020).
Outfielder Jackson Chourio was unanimously named Brewers Top Newcomer in his rookie season, which he capped off with a two-homer game in the NL Wild Card Series in Milwaukee. Despite some early season struggles, Chourio, still just 20, hit .275/.327/.464 (117 OPS+) with 21 homers, 79 RBIs, 80 runs, and 22 steals in 148 games, becoming the youngest player in MLB history to complete a 20 HR/20 SB season. Like Contreras, Chourio is a nominee for the 2024 All-MLB Team.
For the third consecutive season, a Brewers reliever was named Brewers Unsung Hero. Jared Koenig won the award in 2024 after Hoby Milner (2022) and Bryse Wilson (2023) took the last two honors. Koenig went 9-4 with a 2.47 ERA and one save with 63 strikeouts across 62 innings (55 appearances), including six “starts” as an opener.
Shortstop Willy Adames received the Good Guy Award, presented to the player who “has the most outgoing, friendly presence in the clubhouse and interacts well with the media on a daily basis in a cooperative and pleasant manner.” Adames joins Contreras and Chourio as an All-MLB Team nominee. Second baseman Brice Turang is the fourth and final Brewer to be named a finalist for those awards, which will be announced December 16.
