The first blow hits the Brewers before their spring opener
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Blake Perkins is expected to be out until May with a fractured shin, Adam McCalvy reported Saturday morning. Perkins suffered the injury fouling a pitch off his shin in live BP, à la 2019 Christian Yelich.
Injury news: Brewers outfielder Blake Perkins fouled a pitch off his right shin in live BP and suffered a fracture. He’s down 3-4 weeks to heal. Looking like a May return if all goes well, Pat Murphy said.

The injury is an early blow for the Brewers, who play their first spring training game later today. It’s also a good indication of why the team added outfielder Manuel Margot on a minor league deal Friday.
Perkins, 28, was a second-round pick by the Nationals in 2015 but didn’t make his MLB debut until 2023 with the Brewers. In parts of two seasons with Milwaukee, he’s hit .234/.318/.337 with 10 homers, 63 RBIs, 82 runs, and 28 steals across 188 games while providing plus-plus defense.
Perkins will be required to rest for three to four weeks to heal before making his estimated May return, per Pat Murphy.
In other injury news, J.B. Bukauskas is out with a “significant lat injury,” per Todd Rosiak. He’s deciding between surgery or rehab. Bukauskas, also 28, missed the bulk of 2024 with a lat strain, appearing in just six games for the Brewers and none after April 13.
Perkins fouled a Freddy Peralta offering off his leg in a live BP session.
Also, bad news for JB Bukauskas as he has a significant lat injury. He’s deciding between surgery or rehab.
So, depth already being dinged for the Brewers.
