Contreras, Yelich combine to go 0-for-2 in loss
The American League All-Stars took down the National League All-Stars in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game, the 94th Midsummer Classic in MLB history.
The NL threatened in the first, as Shohei Ohtani walked and Bryce Harper doubled to put runners at second and third, but Brewers catcher William Contreras grounded out back to former teammate to end the inning.
Christian Yelich wouldn’t get to face Burnes, as Tarik Skubal came on to pitch the second inning. Yelich grounded out to short for the first out of the inning as the NL ultimately went down 1-2-3.
The NL finally found some rhythm in the third, as Jurickson Profar and Ketel Marte started the inning off with back-to-back singles. Ohtani then crushed a ball to right-center field to make it 3-0.

After Contreras struck out to end the top of the inning, the AL got all of those runs right back in the bottom of the frame. Marcus Semien singled, Steven Kwan walked, and Gunnar Henderson grounded out to move both runners up.
With one out, Juan Soto doubled to score Semien and Kwan, cutting the lead to 3-2 for the NL. David Fry would then get a two-out RBI single to make it 3-3.

Yelich grounded out in the fourth, capping off an 0-for-4 day for Milwaukee’s two All-Stars.
Hunter Greene took the bottom of the fifth for the NL and got a pair of flyouts before giving up an Anthony Santander single. That would come back to bite him as Jarren Duran hit a two-run homer to right-center field, making it 5-3 and giving the AL their first lead of the night.

Neither team was able to get a runner past second base in the final four innings as the AL took the game 5-3 despite being outhit 10-5 by the NL. Duran was awarded the Ted Williams All-Star Game MVP Award for his go-ahead homer.
The Brewers will be back in action on Saturday as they kick off the second half with a short two-game set with the Twins over the weekend.
And just for your personal enjoyment, here’s a great interview Tom Rinaldi did with Bob Uecker ahead of the game. Enjoy!
“I’m starting to become a senior citizen around here, but to come here everyday, go in the clubhouse and be around those guys, they treat me like I’m one of the players.”
