Grant Anderson was recalled ahead of Milwaukee’s home opener Monday
Ahead of the Brewers’ home opener on Monday, the team announced that right-handed starter Aaron Civale was placed on the injured list with a strained hamstring that forced him to an early exit in Sunday’s loss to the Yankees.
Right-handed reliever Grant Anderson was recalled to take his place on the active roster, making his Brewers debut in Monday’s loss to the Royals.

Civale, who exited Sunday after three innings and 68 pitches, is expected to be out until at least late April as he recovers from the injury. Through 15 starts with the Brewers (14 last season, one this year), he’s 6-4 with a 3.97 ERA, 5.21 FIP, and 67 strikeouts across 77 innings.
Anderson, 27, was acquired this offseason in a trade with the Rangers. Across 49 games with Texas the last two seasons, he posted an ERA of 6.35 and a 5.91 FIP, with 59 strikeouts in 62 1⁄3 innings. He pitched 2 2⁄3 innings in Milwaukee’s loss yesterday, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
With Civale hitting the IL, the Brewers are down to just two “starting” pitchers in Freddy Peralta and Nestor Cortes. Pat Murphy and Co. will try to hold over until they can get Jose Quintana up from the minors and Brandon Woodruff back from injury, though he’ll be on a strict pitch count as he pitches in the majors for the first time since 2023.
