Top Pitching Performance of the Week
Freddy Peralta, the Brewers’ ace (yes, I said it), is the pick for the second week in a row. While Peralta pitched well in his Opening Day start, his second appearance of the season went even better. In the Brewers’ 3-2 extra-inning win over the Reds on Friday, Peralta went eight innings while giving up only two hits and a single earned run. He racked up eight strikeouts, bringing his season total to a team-high 16.
Honorable mention goes to Chad Patrick, who contributed two very impressive performances in what were his first two career starts in the major leagues. Milwaukee won both of those starts. The Brewers’ rotation depth is basically nonexistent right now, and Patrick — who has given up just seven hits in his first eleven innings as a starter — has more than risen to the occasion. If he keeps pitching this well, he might earn a spot in the rotation regardless of who’s healthy.
Top Hitting Performance of the Week
Brice Turang has had a hit in every game this year, going 10-for-27 (.370) this week. Turang now has two home runs on the season, second on the team to Jackson Chourio. His 13 hits are tied for second (with Chourio, behind Sal Frelick). Turang also recorded the Brewers’ first walk-off of the season, a squeeze bunt in the Brewers’ 3-2 win over the Royals.

I’m giving Turang the edge over Chourio because of the walk-off, and because Chourio will be a contender for this award every week. With that being said, the 21-year-old outfielder has been showing why he’s been labeled a future superstar. Chourio has had a hit in every game, save the Opening Day loss to the Yankees. He hit two home runs today, finishing the week 10-for-29 (.345) with six extra base hits.
Injury Notes & Roster Moves
- Milwaukee’s starting rotation injury woes continue as starters Aaron Civale (hamstring strain) and Nestor Cortes (left elbow flexor strain) both land on the 15-day IL. Considering the Brewers are now down to just a single healthy member of the original rotation (Freddy Peralta), Civale and Cortes can’t get healthy soon enough.
- RHP Abner Uribe made his first appearance of the season after serving a four-game suspension resulting from his fight with Jose Siri. Uribe made four appearances this week, totaling 4 2⁄3 innings without recording an earned run. The hard-throwing righty struck out five and didn’t walk anyone.
- RHP Nick Mears is on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville. He’s given up two hits in 3 2⁄3 innings with the Sounds. More importantly, he hasn’t reported any setbacks and is still expected to return in mid-April.
