The season is now underway for each one of Milwaukee’s minor league affiliates
As a reminder, every Monday morning I’ll be bringing you a quick recap of the previous week’s minor league activity — including team records, roster updates, standout performances, and more.
This week marked the first week of the season for every Brewers affiliate (except for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, who played last weekend). Let’s take a look at what happened this week:
Triple-A Nashville (3-5)
The Sounds went 2-3 out of six scheduled games, with Sunday’s game postponed due to inclement weather. On the bright side, Nashville didn’t get blown out in any of their losses, but also only managed to score a single run in each loss. The Sounds don’t currently have a player hitting over .300, a statistic reflective of what’s overall been a rough offensive start. Infield prospect Caleb Durbin leads the team in home runs (two) and hits (eight, tied with Jared Oliva).
Standout performers this week included Durbin, veteran catcher Jorge Alfaro, and pitching prospects Jacob Misiorowski and Logan Henderson. Alfaro went 6-for-9 in Nashville’s two wins this week. Misiorowski went 3 2⁄3 shutout innings to pick up the win on Saturday. He did walk as many batters as he struck out (four) but pitched very well overall. Henderson, who might be needed in the starting rotation as Milwaukee battles injuries, threw five shutout innings and struck out eight in his second start of the season.
Looking ahead to next week, Nashville will face off against Memphis — the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals — in a six-game series beginning Tuesday.
Double-A Biloxi (0-3)
The Shuckers have played three games so far, starting with Friday’s game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. They lost all three pretty handily. No Shucker has more than two hits.
With that being said, the Shuckers will be featuring some serious talent this season. Brewers’ No. 3 prospect Cooper Pratt, Luis Lara, Luke Adams, and Eric Brown all start the season with the Shuckers. The lower farm system is also stacked — highly regarded prospects Jesus Made, Luis Peña, and Braylon Payne could all potentially play their way up to Biloxi by the end of the season.
Next week, the Shuckers will take on the Columbus Clingstones — the Double-A affiliate of the Braves — in a six-game home series.
High-A Wisconsin (1-2)
The Timber Rattlers also started their season on Friday. Unlike Biloxi, they were able to pick up a win in the final game of the series, a 7-6 victory over Cedar Rapids. Like Biloxi, Wisconsin features a number of the Brewers’ top prospects. Yophery Rodriguez (team No. 7) leads the team with five hits in 12 at-bats for a .417 batting average. Blake Burke (team No. 17) is also hitting .400.
Next week, Wisconsin will face off with the Quad Cities River Bandits in a six-game series.
Single-A Carolina (3-0)
The Mudcats are currently undefeated on the backs of the Brewers’ youngest top prospects. Braylon Payne (who hit a home run in his first at-bat of the season), Eric Bitonti, Josh Adamczewski, and Luis Peña lead the team in hits through three games. Jesus Made, hitless in four at-bats so far this year, is also waiting to make his mark. Made is making his first regular season appearance outside of the Dominican Summer League, so hopefully he adjusts quickly to a higher level of pro ball.
The Mudcats will take on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans next week in a six-game series.

Performance of the Week
This is usually going to go to a younger prospect with a higher ceiling, but in a week where nobody really put up crazy stats, I want to show some love to catcher Jorge Alfaro. Alfaro is a 31-year-old who’s bounced around a little bit but is still working to get back to the big leagues and had a pretty solid spring this year. He went 4-for-5 in a win for Triple-A Biloxi this week, earning my nod for the minor league performance of the week.
