Jacob Misiorowski dominant, Tyler Black injured as the Triple-A season gets underway
Welcome to the first minor league roundup of the year!
Every Monday morning I’ll be bringing you a quick recap of the previous week’s minor league activity — including team records, roster updates, standout performances, and more.
There’s not a lot to recap this week, however. Triple-A Nashville is the only Brewers affiliate whose season has started. With that in mind, this week’s roundup is going to be pretty short.
Triple-A Nashville (1-2)
The Sounds started off their season with a 7-1 win against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Righty pitching prospect Carlos Rodriguez had seven strikeouts while only giving up a single unearned run.
Unfortunately, Nashville couldn’t keep the momentum going after their Opening Day win, losing two straight to Jacksonville. The second loss went to extras after a great outing from Jacob Misiorowski (5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 7 K). Garrett Stallings didn’t give up a hit, but — thanks to a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly, and the ghost runner rule — ended up with the loss.
In other news out of Nashville, the Brewers’ No. 6 prospect Tyler Black, who had somewhat of a rough spring training, fractured the hamate bone in his hand. Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel broke the news on the morning of the season opener, and it’s still unclear exactly when or how Black injured himself. He’s now looking at a 6-8 week stint on the injured list.
Looking ahead to next week, Nashville will face off against Gwinnett — the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves — in a six-game series beginning Tuesday.
Standout performances:
Jacob Misiorowski (5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 7 K), Caleb Durbin (3 H, 1 HR, team leader in both categories), Raynel Delgado (.429 BA), Sam McWilliams (1 IP, 0 H, 3 K), Carlos Rodriguez (5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER).
